Three months review
Just over three months on from my first surgery and one day away from my next. The picture show how well my left hand is doing, the little finger is still a bit stiff and there is still a slight loss of sensation in the tips of both the ring and little fingers. However, I’m pretty happy with the outcome. I can hold a pint glass properly and can manage to play more chord shapes on the guitar again! The most obvious scar is the one on my arm, where the skin graft for my little finger was taken. As I’m having grafts on two fingers tomorrow, I do wonder how big the scar is going to be as a result. To be honest I don’t really care if I can get the ring and little fingers straightening again. They seem to be getting worse with time, the first and middle fingers are also not great. The picture shows the extent of the contracture in my right hand. The ring and little finger are past 90 degrees at the proximal interphalangeal joint. This is pretty similar to the little finger on my left hand before surgery, so I’m hoping for a similar result.
Dupuytren’s research
Video presentations from the 2025 International Conference on Dupuytren Disease and Related Conditions are now online. This global summit is held every five years to showcase the latest developments in Dupuytren disease and related conditions and promote international collaboration toward better treatments. These were made available by Charles Eaton MD, the Executive Director of the Dupuytrens Research Group, https://Dupuytrens.org. Some of the presentations are pretty heavy on the science side, so not for everyone. There are however a number of presentations that are very accessible. I’ll be working my way through themin the next couple of weeks whilst waiting for my bandages and stitches coming off so will post more comments soon.
